So, this was my first lasagna that I've ever made and it seems pretty basic. I'll bet that it would be pretty easy to add some extra ingredients that you love to have in yours. For example my mom always puts mushrooms in her lasagna and I really missed them in this dish, so next time I might just add a layer here or there. Like I said it's a fairly basic recipe so be a little creative and do your own thing too!
INGREDIENTS:
8oz ground beef (for a healthier version try ground turkey)
8 oz itlian sausage links, removed from casings and crumbled (again for a healthier version try turkey sausage)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground pepper
2 jars (26 oz ea.) marinara sauce.
8 oz ricotta cheese
8 oz cream cheese @ room temp.
1 c (2 oz) grated parmesan cheese
1 package (8oz; 12 sheets) "no-boil" lasagna noodles
1 c. lightly packed fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
2 c. (8oz) shredded mozzarella cheese
TO MAKE:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly spray a 9 x 13" baking dish w/vegetable oil cooking spray.
Combine the ground beef and sausage in a large saute pan over med-high heat. Season w/the salt and 1/4 tsp of the pepper. Cook until the meat is lightly browned, 8-10 min. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the meat to a medium bowl. Add the marinara sauce to the meat and stir to combine. Set aside.
Mix the ricotta cheese, cream cheese, and parmesan cheese in a medium bowl. Season w/the remaining 1/4 tsp pepper. Set aside.
Cover the bottom of the prepared baking dish w/1 c. of the meat sauce. Arrange a single layer of uncooked lasagna noodles (3 sheets) on top of the sauce. Spread 1 1/2 c. of the meat sauce evenly on top. Add half of the cheese mixture by spoonfuls evenly over the meat sauce, then scatter half of the basil leaves on top. Top w/a layer of lasagna noodles, 1 1/2 c. of the sauce, the remaining cheese mixture, and the remaining basil. Top w/a layer of lasagna noodles, 1 1/2 c. of the meat sauce, and a final layer of lasagna noodles. Spread the remaining meat sauce over the top and sprinkle w/the mozzarella cheese.
Cover w/aluminum foil and bake for 30 min. Uncover and bake until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown, 10-15 min more (I did mine for 15, but think due to higher elevation 20 would have been better, so just keep a good eye on it!) Let stand for 15 min. before serving.
Happy eating!!!
