So...this is entry number two for my virtual travels of the American Discovery Trail. So far I have logged 52.0 miles and have just passed the Delaware/Maryland State line. I didn't figure that the State line had any major historical landmarks, so I decided to learn a little bit about the State of Delaware. Actually, I focused more on the size and population of Delaware. As a Montanan it is very hard to understand how you can get from one side of the State to the other in only 44 miles! Delaware was named after Baron De La Warr. It is the second smallest State in the Union but the 6th most densely populated. Delaware is1,954 square miles, Montana is 147,046 square miles. So land mass wise Delaware would be about 1% of Montana. However, Delaware's population is 873,092 while Montana is just slightly larger at 967,400. Can you imagine fitting all those people in that tiny little area?
Since my last entry I have walked, biked and done the elliptical trainer for 37 miles. It has been a chore to get up and go to the gym first thing in the morning, but also really energizing. I have been trying to take things slowly and not do too much too soon. I have increased my workout time from 20 minutes to 25 minutes and am adding one yoga class per week this week. I'm also trying to not focus on the scale. Instead, I'm trying to focus on living a more healthy life style. This month I am giving up fried food...one of my favorite comfort foods. I don't think it will be FOREVER, but for a while. And I'm trying to eat more veggies!
Next landmark on the trail is in about 30 miles...Chesapeake Bay!
Stay tuned...
