Yup! You guessed it...Whale watching!!! We went on Cabo Expeditions in search of whales this morning. The boat was pretty fun...they had a yummy "brunch" and an open bar as well as fun music playing and a dance floor. While we were on the boat we met people from South Dakota and Billings, MT as well as a woman whose son is a cinematographer for the Planet Earth series, OCEAN as well as the documentary A Man Among Orcas. We found about four or five whales which I suppose made the whale watching tour a success. I did feel slightly bad for the whales though. We were not the only whale watching boat in the ocean. At one time there were seven boats chasing two whales. Most likely a female and her mate OR a female and her calf. Either way, probably a bit scary for the whales! After whale watching my mom and I went off on our own for the afternoon while everyone else went back to the resort to relax. We had the most wonderful lunch at a local hole in the wall called Las Gardenias. I had fish tacos and a cactus taco. They serve the tacos with a little carousel of toppings. My favorites were pickled onions, fresh onions and cilantro, fresh salsa, fresh cabbage and mole sauce. They also had fresh limes to squeeze on top as well as the yummiest white sauce and avacado sauce. Plus a Coke in a GLASS bottle!!! Oh. So. Yummy. Then we went into the market for a little bit of shopping. What an experience! The markets are full of handcrafted arts and clothing. At times it's fun to haggle with the shop owners, at other times you feel bad because you get the sense that they're JUST making ends meet. You really have no sense of how much anything is worth. It's more about how much it's worth to you. It was such a fun time with my mom...it was actually a lot like the things we like to do at home together...only in Mexico! To finish off a wonderful day my parents and the Eddys allowed Greg and I to go off by ourselves for a romantic dinner at the poolside restaurant.
Mom and me at Las Gardenias...YUMMY!
