San Diego Scrapbook

For the last five years Greg and I have made it a priority to go on a big vacation every year. It is something we look forward to. We travel really well together and we both love adventure and meeting new people and seeing new things. This year our big trip was to San Diego for a week in June. Greg's best friend Elias lives there. He and Greg met in the Air Force. They were in basic training together, they were stationed in England together and they were stationed in Great Falls together. I guess you could say it was a friendship that was meant to be! Elias was the best man in our wedding and has been a HUGE part of our lives. As a gift to Elias I did a scrap book of our trip. I love scrapbooking and seeing what everyone is up to. It's something I just started about a year and a half ago so I still have A LOT to learn, but I have so much fun doing it! I wanted to show some of the pages that I did for Elias so that I have a way to remember them now that the book has been sent off! So, needless to say this blog will be very "picture HEAVY!"

These pics were taken minutes after we arrived in SD. The palm tree was actually my VERY FIRST PICTURE! I always get excited to see palm trees! The other pic is from a Sicilian Pizzaria where I had "Barack-oli and Cheese" pizza as a tribute to our President...soooo yummy!

The first day were were there Elias had to work for a few hours...these are pics of us just hangin' out...his pug Guadalupe loved to curl up with us!

Just more hangin' out...that's Elias' Rotweiller Angel...such a sweet heart!

The second day we were in SD Greg was VERY SICK so Elias and I had to go to the zoo without him ;0(
But we had a really good time...Elias was a total trooper...I think we were there for around five hours and we saw just about every animal at the zoo!

These pics were taken at Coronado beach. The Dr. Suess Traveling Sculpture Garden happened to be there, hence the Dr. Suess bronzes. We also walked through Hotel Del Coronado very briefly. It is one of the most famous and historic hotels in SD.

These pictures were taken at the tide pools in La Jolla (pronounced la hoya). We found tons and tons of little crabs and sea life and really enjoyed the day of sunshine!

We found this yummy restaurant for brunch one morning called Little Kitchen, BIG WORLD. Rachel Ray reccomended it on her web site so we gave it a shot. It was really yummy but really little! The walls were covered with pictures of all the famous people who had eaten there over the years...apparently Hillary Clinton and Whoopie Goldberg were BIG supporters...they must have been on the wall at least 10 times each!

Feeding the animals at Bates' Nut Farm

The Wild Animal Park...we didn't get to spend a lot of time here, but the time we did spend was lots of fun!

We went to this brewery called STONE BREWERY...such a GREAT experience. I think it was one of the prettiest building I saw while were were in SD. I had my favorite new beer there called Arrogant Bastard, which rumor has it, James Bar in Missoula is now serving. Greg and I have started the tradition of getting a new pint glass from a local brewery when we travel and we got a really cool one here!
We also went to the Padres game while we were there. It was kind of last minute and the Padres lost ;0( But still, there's just something about a professional baseball game!

I think the aquairium was my FAVORITE piece of SD! It ALMOST made me want to learn to SCUBA but I just think I would be too scared! Well maybe someday...you only live once, right?

The day before we had to go home was really mellow. I think the three of us were really winding down from our vacation. We really just spent most of the day eating and relaxing. We met up with Elias' good friends Linda and Jody for dessert and coffee...EXTRAORDINARY DESSERTS are really good!

We had lunch with Elias' parents at the yummiest Cuban restaurant before we left. We had so much fun in SD and we can't wait until next time!!!
